A solo mystery game at your own pace
Small-Town Secrets is easy to play alone. New evidence every Sunday. Read when you like, think as long as you like, and put the night back together without anybody looking over your shoulder.
Your pace, inside the calendar
A case runs on a calendar: a new episode opens each week. Within that, you set the pace. There is no timer on an exhibit and no clock running while you work. Read one exhibit and come back tomorrow, or take the whole episode in one sitting.
Two rules are worth knowing. The questions stay shut until you have opened every exhibit in the episode once, so you never answer blind. And answers close when the next episode opens. A question that has closed scores nothing, so file your answers before then.
The case page counts down to the next episode, and you can add the date to your calendar.
Your desk keeps your place
Everything you make lives on your desk: your marks, your notebook and your timeline. With a free account it is kept for you and follows you from your laptop to your phone. Close the tab mid-episode and it is all there when you come back. Episode 1 can be read without an account, but answers are only filed with one.
The tip line is optional
Stuck, or just curious? The tip line gives a lead on an exhibit. Your clearance sets how much of it you get, and you choose:
- Observer. Leads from the tip line appear on the exhibits for you.
- Detective. The standard level. You get 3 calls an episode, each one revealing a lead. Calls you do not use earn bonus points.
- Investigator. No tip line and no leads: the exhibits exactly as they came in, with the biggest bonus.
You can change your clearance at any time, from your account or the episode page.
Nobody tells you if you are right
The game never says mid-case whether your theory is on track. You mark, reason and answer, then find out when the results arrive. If that sounds stressful, ignore the leaderboard entirely. It is there for anybody who wants it, and nobody makes you look.
Joining partway through
You are never locked out for starting late. The Case Pass opens every episode already released, so you can read the lot in an evening. One limit: questions that closed before you arrived score nothing. You can still choose the exhibits that prove it and keep your theory for that episode.
